Alienated GOP base Tom Smith
As San Diego County absentee ballot numbers indicate, the GOP base is alienated from the party, and why shouldn’t they be. I certainly am. Bush should have started vetoing spending bills a long time ago, and threats to do so now are unconvincing. The failure of nearly all legislative initiatives, including notably getting rid of the utterly corrupt practice of earmarking, makes you wonder exactly what the GOP stands for, unless its “Get Our Pork.” It make look like an elephant, but it’s actually a very large pig. I have heard that power corrupts, but you don’t expect it to do so so quickly. Yes, yes, I know the Democrats are no pikers at porking, but the idea of the small government party was to rise above that, not compete with it.
