Krauthammer on the Wall Mike Rappaport
As readers of this blog may know, Charles Krauthammer is my favorite political columnist. I agree with him almost all of the time.
Thus, it was a pleasure, but no real surprise, to discover that he has exactly my position on immigration reform. Krauthammer is in favor of building a wall to stop future illegal immigrants and then granting amnesty to existing illegal aliens.
This is no time for mushy compromise. A solution requires two acts of national will: the ugly act of putting up a fence and the supremely generous act of absorbing as ultimately full citizens those who broke our laws to come to America.
This is especially interesting to me, because my sense is that most people are on the extremes: they favor either a wall and no amnesty or no wall and amnesty. Kruathammer and I are in the middle.
