World of Warcraft Mike Rappaport
Most people my age don’t know much about it, but MMORPGs — massive multiplayer online role playing games — are an amazing addition to video game entertainment. You are playing in a game with thousands of other people throughout the country.
The largest MMORPG is World of Warcraft, with 6 million subscribers world wide. (At $15 a month, plus $50 to buy the game, we are talking about real money here.) I was “turned on” to the game by my kids, and now my wife would say that I am addicted. Well maybe. But besides the fun, I justify it as a way of staying young and and participating in my children’s world.
For those who are interested, the New York Times has a couple of articles on the game and the new expansion version scheduled for release at the end of the year. See here and here.
