Very interesting article from Italian Catholic site on background to Pope’s comments and Vatican relations with Turkey.

As some commentators on this site have pointed out, Benedict really was making a deep criticism of at least some versions of Islam and probably of Protestantism as well — the idea that God’s will however irrational it may seem, is the source of all morality.  Count me in the party of reason.
