Solum on Training Law Professors Mike Rappaport

Larry Solum has an post on what “every legal academic” needs to know in a world of interdisciplinary scholarship.  The post is extremely interesting and is well worth considering very carefully.  Yet, I think Larry pushes the point too far.  It is not necessary for “every legal academic” to know these things, even if they are important to many law professors.  There is scarcity here and knowledge of these matters means less knowledge of other matters, such as legal doctrine or comparative law or whatever.  I tend to work in many of the same fields as Larry and share many of his views about what is important, but I don’t think every law professor does or has to.
