Powerline defends McCainMike Rappaport

Powerline notes that “Most conservatives” are willing to let some policy disagreement with “Giuliani and Romney” slide,  “but,for some reason, hold McCain to an entirely different standard.”

I think that is right.  I am one of them.  The question is why.  Powerline does make a case that McCain “whatever he is, and whichever positions you may disagree with him on,McCain is no liberal. He is a pro-life spending hawk; more important,he is a hawk, period.”

For me, I think the answer is that I find too many of McCain’s positions repulsive.  McCain Feingold is unforgiveable.  Period.  McCain is a spending hawk, of a sort, but I can imagine him regulating us up the gazoo.

More than the others, I don’t believe McCain would surround himself with right thinking people.  We have seen how disastrous that has been with Bush, and I think it would occur to a much greater extent with McCain.  (Of course, if he were to commit to appointing Phil Gramm to be his Secretary of Treasury and Tim Muris to head OMB, that would go a long way towards getting my vote.)
