Why can’t the smartest guys in the universe keep the email running? Tom Smith

For the second time in not so many days, gmail is down again.  It’s driving me crazy.  I rely on it.  I use it exclusively.  And not only because the email system at my small but undeniably cute university is lame.  (Instead of emailing something to my secretary, it can be faster to actually walk it to her. What’s with that?)  Gmail is addicting because of the huge storage space and the search function.  I routinely email myself documents to back them up and make them accessible anywhere.  It is usually super fast.  It has nice clean graphics.  It updates conversations as you are having them.  Yes, robots read your email.  I don’t care.  Someday Google may sell everything there is to know about me to the Chinese, having changed their motto from Don’t Be Evil to Whatever.  I don’t let the fact that there is something about Google that gives me the creeps get in the way of my personal convenience.  But this gmail being down is rocking my world.  Google was supposed to be creepy, yes, but utterly competent.

If anyone knows of an email service with as good a feature set (must have the search thing going), please let me know.  I will pay.  Also, if anybody knows of a utility that would securely delete to NSA standard all the data Google has on me, I’d like to know about that too.  🙂  God, I can’t believe I did that.
