Institutionalization in Prisons and Mental HospitalsMike Rappaport

Over at the Volokh Conspiracy, Bernard Harcourt of the University of Chicago Law School is guest blogging on his scholarship concerning prison and mental hospitals.  At first, I just skipped over it — it seemed too dense to be worth it.  But then I came across this post, on another blog, which didn’t bury the lede, and I was hooked.  I am sure I am missing something, but the data seem to suggest, on the surface at least, perhaps the primary cause of the crime explosion beginning in the 60s.
