The egregious Minneapolis Star-Tribune – but no more egregious than many if not most MSM papers around the country – is pushing out James Lileks.

Maricopa Community College is taking steps to fire a tenured professor for e-mailing George Washington’s Thanksgiving Address to his colleagues.  (The e-mail had a link to Pat Buchanan’s website where Washington’s Address had been posted.  Buchanan’s views on illegal immigration constitute “harrassment” or genocide or something, according to the Community College.)

Illiberal reflexes, to put it as mildly as possible, are ever more pervasive among liberals: the bullying, inquisitorial campus style now commonplace in left-of-centre circles and institutions of all kinds.

If and when the New Model Democrats control the White House as well as Congress, does anyone imagine there won’t be some of this from them?

UPDATE: Lest anyone claim that campus ideological bullying is just the occasional idiocy from a nowheresville Community College, here is the latest from Tufts University: a comprehensive ideological speech code controlling all “opinions and attitudes” by everyone at Tufts.  Colleges and universities have rightly been called “islands of repression in a sea of freedom”.  But that may seriously understate the influence of colleges and universities – firstly over secondary and even primary education, and increasingly over the ethos of the media, the bureaucracy, and other left-of-centre circles and institutions generally.
