The case of the travel by the man with drug resistant TB really exposes the nature of our borders:

Even though U.S. officials had put Speaker on a warning list, he caught a flight to Montrealand then drove across the U.S. border on May 24 at Champlain, N.Y. Aborder inspector who checked him disregarded a computer warning to stopSpeaker, officials said Thursday.

Theunidentified inspector later said the infected man seemed perfectlyhealthy and that he thought the warning was merely “discretionary,”officials briefed on the case told the AP. They spoke on condition ofanonymity because the matter is still under investigation. Theinspector has since been removed from border duty.

On Fox News, they were interviewing someone, who I think was the former inspector general who had done an investigation of the borders, and he reported the following amazing fact: In 70 percent of cases, when border agents discovered that the person was using a stolen passport, they still allowed the person through. 

It would be good to confirm this latter story, but if true, it really shows how bad the situation is.  No fence is going to address the problem if the border agents are behaving so outrageously.
