NY Times: What lies beneath anti-racism training is an attack on capitalism, rationalism and excellence

Obviously if you re teaching people that proper English, rational thought, the written word and even clocks are all ways in which white supremacy operates to hold minorities back you re not going to be terribly interested in seeing students pursue excellence in schools that focus on reading, writing and arithmetic. Chislett pointed to the obvious absurdity of people with these views being involved in an Advanced Placement for All effort at schools:

In my view, there is an element of personal politics, which might include elements of racism, that tends to enter into the interstices of meritocracy. But if, say, a gorgeous young woman gets the job instead of a nerdy middle aged man, that doesn’t mean the whole system in hopelessly corrupt and ought to come crashing down. I’m not sure what it means, but I’m sure any effort by the guvment to “correct” the situation will just make things worse. Sometimes things get so bad that there does have to be state intervention, but often things are best just tolerated. But — the idea that English, the written word, even clocks are evidence of white supremacy — why that’s just crazy talk, I tell you, crazy talk!
