“Second largest in history. This is big for Lebanon. It’s great,” said owner of Hometown Gas and Grill Fred Cotreau.

When Cotreau got the call, he didn’t believe the news.

“When the phone call came in this morning from Augusta I thought it was a scam,” Cotreau said.

The lucky combination of numbers drawn late Friday night were: 30, 43, 45, 46, 61 and gold Mega Ball 14.

The winner, whose name is not yet known, overcame steep odds of 1 in 302.6 million, which led to three months of drawings without a claim on the jackpot.

Another life ruined by being inundated with tons of cold, hard cash. Another promising, or perhaps not so promising, life cut down perhaps somewhat past its prime by never having to worry again about making ends meet. But, but not so fast. The so-called lucky winner will doubtless be descended upon by a plague of grifters, and newly impoverished, long lost relatives, all asking for money, just a bit, just say a million or so. Oh, it’s dreary to contemplate. I pity the poor man or woman or bear (it’s New Hampshire) who won this enormous prize. I decided you can fantasize about winning the lottery whether or not you bought a ticket, so I save on the lottery tickets. Every so often, however, a wad of tickets falls out of LWJ’s purse. It’s a sad affliction.
