Mikey Williams: Star basketball player sentenced after shooting at his home in Jamul

They took an understanding. They wanted to look at it to understand who Mikey Williams is, who he was before this incident, the types of things he s done and the quality and character of this young man, Williams attorney Randy Grossman said.

Williams is now on summary probation for a year, the lowest form of probation, and has a 10-year gun restriction placed on his record.

All it really means is that he s to live an upstanding life as he s always done already and to violate no laws, again excluding minor traffic occasions or infractions for the next year and then after that he ll be off of probation, Grossman said.

Williams attorney says he withdrew from the University of Memphis and will start as a freshman at the University of Central Florida next week, attending classes and playing basketball.

Glad to see this was worked out. This was big news in the local sports scene. If he can keep out of trouble, Mikey has a bright future ahead of him.
