Malibu fire rages on as famous locals evacuate and college students shelter

Strong winds continue to fuel the fast-moving, nearly 4,000-acre Malibu wildfire that has destroyed homes and forced authorities to issue evacuation orders to around 20,000 people in Los Angeles County, California.

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles warned Tuesday night there remained a “very extreme fire danger” across southern California as thousands of first responders worked to control the flames.

The Franklin Fire has stretched to 3,983 acres as of 7 a.m. local time (10 a.m. ET) with 7% containment, after growing 600 acres this morning, the city of Malibu said in an update.
