A Defense Expert Explores Whether The Covid-19 Coronavirus Makes A Good Bioweapon
Overall, the SARS-CoV-2 virus has some desirable properties as a bioweapon, but probably not enough to make it a good choice for military purposes. Regardless, it has certainly reminded us of our vulnerabilities as a society to a new pathogen, and how crippling a pandemic can be, as we continue to watch the entire world grappling with how to contain it. I have no doubt that our adversaries have been taking notes on how challenging it has been for the US to respond effectively.
The other important thing this pandemic has demonstrated is that once the genie escapes the bottle, it is nearly impossible to put it back in. We lose control and the results are unpredictable. This is one reason the US got out of the bioweapon business when President Nixon shut down the weapons development program in 1969 and decided to focus solely on defensive measures. It is only a matter of time until we face this type of challenge again either from mother nature or an adversary. Now is the time to shore up the vulnerabilities in our preparedness and response that this pandemic has laid bare. Time is not on our side.

This is from last August. It makes some good points. The coronavirus does not seem to me like a good bio-weapon. However, it might have been part of a larger project for developing weapons. I don’t know but it certainly seems possible given the PLA’s involvement in bioweapons research. I doubt it was deliberately released. However, once it was released, it certainly seems the PRC/CCP allowed it to spread outside of China deliberately. I hope the people of the rest of the world pause long enough to let that fact (and it seems to me now pretty much a fact) sink in. Apparently the Indians have done so and are doing so and are boiling mad at the PRC, and who can blame them.
