Virginia protesters tear down statue of Confederate President Jefferson Davis a day after bringing down Christopher Columbus

Davis was the president of the Confederate states during the Civil War. It was the second statue to come down in Richmond in two days.

On Tuesday, CNN affiliate WTVR reported about 1,000 people gathered in Byrd Park during what was initially a peaceful demonstration.

But protesters vandalized a statue of Christopher Columbus, tore it down using ropes and threw it in the park.

Allegedly Columbus was a very wicked dude. Enslaved Indians. Chopped off limbs if they resisted. Wrote in his diary “f*cked a 14 year girl today — that was fun.” Sort of a buccaneer-entrepreneur type. Just something I heard from a reliable source. Jeff Davis I don’t know much about. Probably didn’t think much of black people though.
