Those around the president Jill Biden, certainly, but also all those savvy staffers should have encouraged Biden to bow out gracefully after his first term. Because what happened last night was heartbreaking. It debased Biden as a man. It was also alarming the person we saw onstage is our commander in chief. He holds the nuclear football. It wasn t just Americans who watched his performance last night.

The Democrats talk a lot about saving democracy. But if you truly believe democracy is on the line in a race against Trump, the solution is as straightforward as it was before the debate clock started last night on CNN: Replace Biden. The Democratic Convention doesn t begin until August 19. Biden still has time to pull an LBJ. 

As for the rest of us? Tonight was like a flash going off. So much and so many revealed.

Oh for heaven’s sake. Biden’s performance was so disappointing to his erstwhile fans. What did they expect? It’s not easy to get all those meds right, you know. And Biden has been failing for a while. The most shocking thing to me is how shocked everybody is. If this is a failure, it’s a failure of modern pharmaceuticals and modern medicine.
And all this “Joe Biden is diminished as a man!” Oh please. The guy has always been a low life — just being frank here. You should have seen him during the failed Bork confirmation, or the Thomas confirmation. It’s not like he’s a bargain when he’s alert. Trump was undoubtedly correct when he said Biden lies more than any politician he’s met, and he’s met a lot of them. So Biden looked bad. Well, he is bad. The media was lying their heads off about him! Yeah, they do that too. Trump OTOH seemed pretty Trumpy. Pick your poison.
