Ukraine s Judges Shoot Down Drones – WSJ
Sophisticated Western air-defense systems are the main reason the Ukrainian capital sleeps easier these days. Another is a bunch of machine gun-wielding judges on the rooftops of Kyiv.
After Russia launched its full invasion of Ukraine, a group of current and retired judges formed a paramilitary squad called the Mriya an homage to the Ukrainian cargo plane that was the world s largest before the Russians destroyed it early in the war. Mriya comprises some 380 volunteers, 35 or so of whom are judges. They turned their attention to air defense last fall as Russia started attacking Ukraine with Iranian-made Shahed drones.

My son Luke, his wife Anna and her parents, all sleep under the air defense envelope in Kyiv. And so LWJ and I sleep easier as well. LWJ just got a huge Slavi Ukraini sticker for her new Mazda. I worry a bit about vandalism now that opinion on the Right seems to be turning in favor of Russia. But vandalism seems to be more a left-wing thing. It’s more live and let live where we live.
Sometime I hope to write something about Ukraine. Tucker is spewing rot about it. Victory there is important to us but it’s especially important to the Ukrainians. It makes complete sense to lend aid to a country trying to defend itself, as we did with the British back in the day.
