Afghanistan Strike, Pelosi Visit to Taiwan Put Foreign Policy Back on Center Stage for Biden – WSJ

In Mrs. Pelosi s visit to Taiwan, the president is coping with a foreign-policy challenge that his administration s military leadership didn t want. The speaker landed in Taipei Tuesday and is set to meet with the Taiwanese president. Her visit is the highest-level trip in 25 years by a U.S. government official to Taiwan.

No matter for what reason Pelosi goes to Taiwan, it will be a stupid, dangerous and unnecessary gamble, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Tuesday. It is difficult to imagine a more reckless and provocative action.

The Chinese military has announced a series of exercises in the waters off northeastern and southeastern China, including near Taiwan, in recent days.
