Well, boys and girls, that just about wraps it up. It just gets better and better, doesn’t it? What seems plausible and likely in fact to me is that our friend the coronavirus was actually being researched for its potential as . . . a bioweapon! Yes, you heard that right. If the PLA was helping out with the presumed research, why else would they be doing it, except for the virus’s dual military use? About this, we probably never will know. But surely we know enough to impose a, let us call it, moratorium on this deadlier-virus-making gain-of-function research. Having carelessly killed off multiple millions of humans, Big Virus has proven that yes, you can indeed tweak these little pathogens to make them more deadly, and some people might find it good to get that learnt. Most of us, however, would figure we can just assume that was the case. The thing is, we don’t necessarily know how to respond to these novel viruses, so it seems like a terrible idea to invent them just to see if we can fix them once they crawl out of their test tubes.
