China Plays the Climate Card – WSJ

For the Communist Party, climate change is secondary to China s immediate strategic interests. Yet it hopes the U.S. is woolly-headed enough to trade away its security priorities for unenforceable climate promises.

If that sounds outlandish, remember that this Administration s thinking about energy and climate isn t exactly strategic. A few weeks ago it was exhorting the OPEC cartel to produce more oil after feuding with Saudi Arabia over human rights and mobilizing the regulatory state to throttle American domestic energy production.

The Biden Administration hasn t yet yielded to China s demands that the U.S. abandon its interests and values in Asia. Let s hope Mr. Kerry s climate project doesn t turn out to be the weak link.
