AFGHANISTAN COLLAPSE: Everything You Need To Know About Fall Of Kabul

via www.youtube.com

While I have nothing but admiration for our US fighting men and women, I jumped ship from the neo-con view of the world about 10 years ago. I’m still getting over there not being any WMD in Iraq and the shock of having been lied to, or (though I doubt it) the CIA being so misinformed that they actually thought there were WMD there– though who knows. So I now think we should not have invaded Iraq and we should have invaded Afghanistan but then left soon thereafter. I’m not a foreign policy expert but I think I could have done better than our real experts did. That said, I think the “progressive” view offered by Krystal and Saagar is pretty much right, as their diagnoses often are. What they want to do about the various soft spots of corruption they find is usually ridiculous or just naive, but being half right is no small thing in this crazy world of ours.

When lives are at stake as they are in Afghanistan, you’d think people would take more care than we did with all the Afghans who helped us and their families. We’d like to not to have to say “hey, you f*&^ed up. You trusted us.” But that’s all we can say in many cases.

In theory, Biden could have appointed people who could have organized a less catastrophic exit. But of course he didn’t. He works for the government after all. but I suspect this will matter not much at all in 2022. We are a people with a short attention span. We have learned nothing and forgotten nothing.
